Propstore's film memorabilia auction set a blockbuster record: the head of the iconic droid C-3PO from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) sold for $1,058,400.
This marks the only known example from the saga to hit the collector market.
Top auction lots:
- Jaws (1975): Steven Spielberg classic props fetched over $600,000, including Quint’s harpoon gun at $327,600.
- The Lord of the Rings: Fragments of the sword Narsil sold for $252,000.
- Cast Away: Tom Hanks’ volleyball “Wilson” went for $189,000.
- Gladiator: Maximus helmet (Russell Crowe) also fetched $189,000.
Day one generated $6.5 million for organizers. Standout quirky items included the mechanical rhino from Ace Ventura 2 ($59,850) and a golden ticket from Willy Wonka ($107,100).
The auction continues, with experts anticipating more seven-figure Hollywood artifacts.
