The animated film grossed $372.5 million worldwide in its opening weekend, becoming the biggest debut of 2026 so far.

Records and achievements:

  • in the U.S., the film earned $190.1 million over the five-day holiday period, marking the best opening of the year;
  • globally, it ranks as the fifth-largest debut in animation history, trailing only hits like Zootopia 2 and Moana 2;
  • Mario has become the only video game character whose film adaptations have twice surpassed $350 million at launch.

Audiences gave the new space adventure of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach a strong ā€œA-ā€ rating on CinemaScore.

At the same time, the sci-fi drama Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, is also celebrating success, having crossed the $400 million mark at the global box office.
