🎦 Ryan Gosling rescues the South Korean box office
The sci-fi blockbuster "Project Hail Mary" topped the South Korean box office this past weekend. According to KOBIS data, the film, starring Ryan Gosling, earned $2.4 million, capturing nearly 40% of the market share. Since its premiere on March 18, the film’s total domestic earnings have reached $12.2 million.
The historical drama “The King’s Warden” slipped to second place but crossed a major psychological milestone, surpassing $100 million in total revenue. Having already been seen by over 16 million people, the film needs fewer than 170,000 more admissions to overtake the comedy Extreme Job and become the second highest-grossing film in South Korean history.
Debuting in third place was the comedy “The Ultimate Duo.” The story follows a veteran investigator and an “influencer-cop” as they probe a murder in the prestigious Gangnam district, bringing in $263,000 over the weekend.
The Japanese drama “The Last Song You Left Behind” took the fourth spot, while the top five was rounded out by “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc,” which saw its total Korean earnings cross the $41 million mark.
Further down the Top 10, notable entries included the horror film “Salmokji: Whispering Water,” a special screening of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill,” and the French animation “Pets on a Train.” Overall, the South Korean market saw a slight downturn, with total weekend earnings amounting to $5.8 million, compared to $7.9 million the previous week.
