📊 The twilight of Dramas and the Hollywood renaissance

The first quarter of 2026 has been marked by a sharp shift in viewer preferences. According to the "Kinopoisk Pro Index," overall interest in TV series in Russia has declined by 26% compared to last year.

Asian content experienced the most significant downturn: the popularity of South Korean projects plummeted by 68%, while Japanese content saw a 46% drop.

Key trends of the quarter

  • The US Comeback: Defying the general market slump, American series saw a 16% increase in interest. US projects secured half of the positions in the Top 20, with Netflix’s cult hit Stranger Things leading the rankings. Other prominent titles in the top tier include the Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the classic Breaking Bad, and the drama Euphoria.
  • Russian Content Holds the Line: Domestic projects account for 38% of total viewer attention. The most notable performer was the series Landyshi (Lily of the Valley), which claimed 2nd place following the successful launch of its second season. Other Top 20 mainstays include First Department, The Matchmakers, and Children of Change.
  • Crisis for Anime and Turkish Dramas: Interest in Turkish series declined by 38%. Only two anime representatives managed to hold their ground in the Index Top 20: Jujutsu Kaisen (a triumphant 3rd place) and Hell’s Paradise (20th place).

Audience attention by country:

| Country | Market Share |
| -------------------- | ------------ |
| Russia | 38% |
| USA | 29% |
| Japan | 12% |
| Turkey / South Korea | 5% each |
| Rest of the World | 11% |

Analysts note that while Russian content continues to dominate in terms of volume, the high-quality surge of American titles has restored their status as the primary drivers of streaming interest in early 2026.
