🏆 Winners of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival Announced

The 48th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) has officially concluded. The closing ceremony, held this past weekend, served as the grand finale to the extensive showcase, honoring the standout works from the main competition and special sections.

The Golden Saint George Goes to India

The festival’s highest honor—the Golden Saint George—was awarded to the Indian psychological drama Passion, directed by Fazil Razak. The film emerged as a jury favorite, prevailing over formidable contenders from Europe and Latin America. The film’s success was further bolstered by Amrutha Krishnakumar, who received the Silver Saint George for Best Actress.

A Triumph for Russian Cinema: “Vygotsky”

A major highlight of this year’s MIFF was the Russian biographical drama Vygotsky, which explores the life of the renowned Soviet psychologist Lev Vygotsky. The film secured two prestigious awards:

  • Anton Bilzho was named Best Director.
  • Sergei Gilev received the award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the title character.

Critics praised the profound character study of the scientist and the production’s highly original visual style.

  • Special Jury Prize: Awarded to the Spanish-Romanian co-production Retribution by Daniel Guzmán.
  • “Russian Premieres” Competition: The top prize in this increasingly influential category went to Viktor Shamirov’s philosophical work, The Temperature of the Universe.
