๐ช๐ธ Spain Launches DVB-I Pilot
Spanish public broadcasters RTVE and FORTA have officially launched a national DVB-I pilot.
The initiative’s goal is to test the standard as a strategic tool to increase the visibility and accessibility of TV content, adapting to new consumer habits. The project is designed to help broadcasters compete with global streaming platforms while preserving the free-to-air digital terrestrial television (FTA DTT) model.
The initiative aligns with the European Media Freedom Act, which requires ensuring the priority display of local content on connected televisions.
The pilot is scheduled to run for nine months. Broadcasters, electronics manufacturers, and operators will participate in it. Spain, where DTT remains the dominant platform, will be a key testing ground for studying the integration of DVB-I and strengthening the position of local broadcasters.
