💪 Micro-Drama Defeats Streaming Giants

A tectonic shift has struck the U.S. mobile entertainment market. According to data from Omdia, as of late 2025, users are pivoting en masse from traditional series to micro-drama platforms, causing giants like Netflix and Disney+ to lose their grip on the mobile audience.

Services such as ReelShort, FlickReels, and DramaBox offer vertical content perfectly tailored for quick breaks throughout the day.

ReelShort has become a true phenomenon: its average daily watch time nearly tripled—surging from 12.8 to 35.4 minutes—surpassing even Netflix in smartphone engagement.

The economics of this new wave are striking. Studios can produce 90 minutes of content for as little as $100,000, while often spending five times that amount on a single TikTok ad campaign.

As micro-dramas rise, daily mobile usage for the “old guard” is slipping: Netflix has dropped to 34.7 minutes, HBO Max to 27.9 minutes, and Disney+ to 23.1 minutes.

The verdict is clear: viewer attention has officially become fragmented.
