🛒 Fox Strengthens Market Position with Acquisition of Roku

Fox Corporation has announced an agreement to acquire Roku in a transaction valued at approximately $12.5 billion.

This strategic combination of one of the largest television content owners in the US with the leading Connected TV (CTV) platform marks one of the most significant developments in the streaming sector in recent years. Through this transaction, Fox gains direct access to Roku’s operating system, its advanced advertising technologies, and its massive audience reach.

To date, Roku boasts over 90 million active accounts, powering smart TVs and streaming media players across North America and select international markets. The platform serves as a critical gateway for video services and advertisers, generating the majority of its revenue from advertising, content distribution, and affiliate partnerships.

Fox emphasized that the acquisition will strengthen the conglomerate’s direct ties with both consumers and advertisers, while unlocking new opportunities in FAST TV, sports broadcasting, and digital marketing.

The takeover of Roku will allow Fox to significantly expand its digital footprint beyond its existing assets. The corporation already owns Tubi—one of the largest FAST platforms in the US—as well as the recently launched direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service Fox One and a growing portfolio of thematic FAST channels.

Analysts note that the deal reflects the escalating value of television operating systems and aggregator platforms in an era when the market is decisively shifting from traditional cable TV to streaming. The transaction is expected to draw intense scrutiny from US antitrust regulators, who will evaluate its impact on competition within the CTV advertising sector.

Fox stated that Roku will continue to function as an independent platform, now backed by the financial resources and content library of the parent conglomerate. The transaction is slated to close by the end of 2026, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
