👀 Younger Demographics Willing to Watch Ads to Reduce Expenses

Viewer intolerance toward advertising on linear television and streaming platforms has dropped to an all-time low. According to a study by Hub Entertainment Research, amid consistent subscription price hikes, users are increasingly opting for ad-supported tier structures (AVOD) to mitigate their monthly expenditures.

Only a third of respondents expressed a willingness to pay an additional $4 to $5 per month to entirely avoid commercial breaks, while a mere 10% of viewers remain categorically opposed to advertising.

This trend is particularly pronounced among Gen Z consumers. Younger Americans are more amenable to accepting even a higher ad load, provided it guarantees the maximum subscription discount. Furthermore, younger audiences express a clear preference for highly targeted, relevant advertising and are willing to share baseline demographic metrics and viewing histories. Conversely, users remain highly reluctant to grant services access to data regarding their income brackets, social media activity, or query histories within AI chat platforms.

Younger Viewers More Receptive to Ads and More Distracted

Industry experts also note that while Gen Z viewers frequently divert their attention to a second screen during commercial breaks, 80% of them continue to consume the advertisements via background audio.

Artificial intelligence is emerging as another pivotal factor in this market transformation. Consumers, particularly within the Gen Z cohort, support the integration of generative AI if it is deployed to optimize broadcast programming blocks—specifically to reduce the repetition frequency of identical clips and enhance the contextual relevance of ads. However, audiences view the concept of utilizing neural networks to generate the underlying commercial spots or promotional trailers with a high degree of skepticism.
