๐ APOS 2026 Outlines New Benchmarks for the Asian Media Market
The entertainment industry in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has entered a phase of market maturity. At the APOS 2026 conference held in Bali, top executives shifted their operational focus away from chaotic scaling toward constructing sustainable ecosystems, monetizing enduring intellectual property (IP), and driving deep audience engagement.
According to Vivek Couto, Executive Director of the analytical firm Media Partners Asia (MPA), the APAC media sector is currently undergoing more than a mere “reset”; it is experiencing a fundamental redefinition of all core business models.
The ownership of cross-platform franchises emerged as a defining trend. Netflix executives noted that Asian content now consistently accounts for more than half of the weekly global Top 10 non-English language releases. Another critical evolution is the transition of generative AI from a theoretical discussion topic into an operational reality; for instance, the JioHotstar platform has deployed an OpenAI-powered voice search feature, which is already preferred over text input by more than 60% of its user base.
The vertical video and micro-drama segment has also amassed substantial economic weight. Market leaders ReelShort and DramaBox generate approximately $1.5 billion in annual revenue by specifically targeting viewers across the United States and Asia. Concurrently, traditional mobile consumption stereotypes are dissolving across the region; India is recording an explosive surge in Connected TV (CTV) viewing, where YouTube and live sports broadcasting (with the IPL cricket season drawing a record 1.2 billion viewers) have cemented CTV as the primary “prime-time screen.”
Against this backdrop, intergovernmental competition to attract production pipelines is intensifying. The Vice Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, personally presented a cash rebate program at the summit, offering filmmakers up to a 50% financial return on production expenditures incurred within the Indonesian capital.
