🍿 Toy Story 5 Tops the Chinese Box Office

The collective volume of the Chinese cinema market has reached $2.48 billion year-to-date, reflecting a prolonged downturn; this metric stands 40.8% below the figures recorded during the equivalent period last year.

Disney’s animated blockbuster Toy Story 5 led the weekend chart, generating ¥121.2 million (approximately $17.8 million) during its debut.

Securing the runner-up spot was Jinant Film & TV’s family drama Dear You, which continues to demonstrate phenomenal box office endurance. In its eighth week in theaters, the low-budget hit helmed by Lan Hongchun added $11.3 million to its tally, driving its cumulative gross to $272.5 million since its April 30 release.

Third place went to the debuting psychological drama I Know Who You Are from Damai Entertainment, which brought in $9 million. Directed by Feng Xiaogang, the feature is based on a 1992 novella by Zhang Ce. The narrative centers on a four-decade long mental game of cat-and-mouse between a stubborn local police chief and a quiet schoolteacher whom the officer suspects of espionage.

Edko Films’ action feature The Furious claimed the fourth position, pulling in $6 million for a cumulative total of $25.3 million. Helmed by Kenji Tanigaki, the action-heavy title tracks an ordinary man and a journalist as they battle a human trafficking network in Southeast Asia.

Rounding out the top five was the sci-fi romance The Boy Who Counted Cars from Momo Pictures, which launched with $5.8 million. The film follows an eccentric young man convinced that his reality is a simulation—a belief that begins to unravel after he encounters a free-spirited young woman.
