📊 Glance Analyzes Global Television Viewing Trends

International analytical agency Glance, a specialist in television and video content market research, has published its latest One TV Year in the World study.

The report aggregates data on linear television, Broadcaster Video on Demand (BVoD), and streaming platforms across more than 100 countries, offering a comprehensive overview of the global industry’s performance throughout 2025.

According to Glance’s core findings, the average global consumer spent 2 hours and 13 minutes per day in front of a screen in 2025 (representing a minor decrease of just 5 minutes compared to the previous year).

Scripted series and dramas remain the most popular genre on a global scale. The primary catalyst in this segment is domestic production—70% of the titles that secured the top positions in national rankings were produced within those respective countries.

Unscripted entertainment content was recognized as the second major pillar of global viewing, with reality TV accounting for 48% of the airtime within this category. Established international formats continue to demonstrate remarkable longevity: Dancing with the Stars, which originally launched in 2004, topped the ratings in 10 countries, while The Masked Singer (launched in 2015) entered the top lineups of nine nations.

Live broadcasts occupy a unique position within the structure of media consumption. In the United States, the Super Bowl established a historic record, gathering a staggering 130 million viewers (an 8% year-over-year increase compared to 2024). Analysts attribute this surge to the broadcast expanding its availability onto the Tubi streaming platform. Furthermore, television trends responded dynamically to the geopolitical agenda: amid widespread global instability, the market share of news networks in Europe expanded by 0.6 percentage points.

“Global television viewing maintains a highly robust position while rapidly evolving to adapt to the new digital habits of audiences,” concluded Frédéric Vaulpré, Senior Vice President of Glance.
