🐉 Military Epic ‘Crossing’ Tops Mainland China Box Office

According to data from analytical agency Artisan Gateway, the feature debuted to ¥79.3 million ($11.7 million), driving its cumulative total to $12.8 million when factoring in previews.

Directed by Xu Zhanxiong, the project aligns with the 90th anniversary of the Chinese Communists’ Long March. The film’s narrative meticulously reconstructs the famous Chishui River battle. Leading Chinese actors head the historical cast, with Liu Ye portraying Mao Zedong and Wang Lei playing Zhou Enlai.

The previous week’s leader, Disney and Pixar’s animated hit Toy Story 5, slipped to second place. The animated feature generated $7.4 million during its sophomore weekend, bringing its regional cume to $29.6 million. Rounding out the top three was an A24 newcomer, the psychological horror film Backrooms, which scraped together $5.3 million in its debut frame.

Fourth place was sustained by the domestic hit Dear You from Jinant Film & TV. In its ninth weekend of release, the Teochew-dialect family drama added $4.8 million to its tally. Since its April 30 launch, the modest-budget picture has amassed an impressive $281.8 million. Securing the fifth spot was Feng Xiaogang’s historical drama I Know Who You Are, which drew $2.6 million for a cumulative gross of $14.6 million.

Overall, the aggregate weekend box office in China reached $38.3 million. Year-to-date, the total Chinese theatrical market has reached $2.54 billion, representing a 40.5% contraction compared to the equivalent period during a highly successful 2025.
