🧠 Netflix Confirms Acquisition of AI Startup
The company has officially disclosed the financial terms of its acquisition of InterPositive, a technology startup founded by Hollywood actor and director Ben Affleck.
According to a regulatory filing submitted by Netflix to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the purchase price totaled $587 million, aligning closely with spring analyst estimates of $600 million.
InterPositive was quietly established in 2022 by Affleck, who served as its sole founder and chief executive officer. Under the terms of the agreement, the startup’s entire development team will transition to Netflix as full-time employees, while Affleck himself will assume an advisory role.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos commented on the integration of the new technology, acknowledging that generative AI remains a highly sensitive topic within the creative community amid ongoing concerns over labor displacement. Nevertheless, the chief executive emphasized the purely applied and economic benefits of deploying AI tools, stating that generative intelligence solutions are already being scaled across every pipeline stage—from concept development and pre-visualization to post-production and distribution.
Netflix leadership reiterated that AI will not replace human talent, asserting that “it takes great artists to make something great.” The company plans to fully reinvest the capital saved through automation into the production of premium new content, aiming to accelerate its engagement flywheel and drive further revenue growth.
