🎬 Soyuzmultfilm Launches Live-Action Film Division
Renowned animation studio Soyuzmultfilm has announced a structural expansion and the launch of a new business vertical. The holding company has established a subsidiary, SMF Cinema (SMF Kino), which will focus on the development, production, and international promotion of live-action feature films.
Additionally, the new entity will oversee global distribution and co-production for both live-action and animated titles across the studio’s portfolio.
Katerina Pshenitsyna, former head of international development at Soyuzmultfilm, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of SMF Cinema. Nelly Yaralova takes the helm as the company’s General Producer.
According to Katerina Pshenitsyna, launching co-production film projects with partners across the BRICS nations and the Middle East stands among the new entity’s top strategic priorities. The studio is currently engaged in active negotiations with industry leaders from China, India, and the Arab world. On the distribution front, SMF Cinema aims to scale sales of live-action feature films in overseas markets, leveraging the studio’s proven track record in exporting animated series.
SMF Cinema currently has over ten live-action feature films in development and production. Many of these projects will draw upon iconic franchises and characters from the studio’s golden catalog. Among the initial projects announced are live-action adaptations and reimaginings of classics such as Once Upon a Dog, Umka, Puck! Puck!, and Matroskin’s Youth.
