⚽️ Match TV's 2026 World Cup Coverage Reaches 50.8 Million Viewers
Sports broadcaster Match TV has published viewership metrics for the FIFA World Cup 2026, held from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The cumulative television reach for the tournament—combining live broadcasts and morning replays—reached 50.8 million viewers, according to General Producer Alexander Taschin.
The tournament enabled Match TV to set all-time viewership highs. In June, the channel’s average audience share among men aged 14–59 in cities with populations over 100,000 reached 7.4% (5.7% nationwide). The network broadcast 69 matches live, achieving an average viewing share of 16.7%. Over the course of the 2026 World Cup, Match TV ranked as Russia’s most-watched television channel on six separate days. Due to time zone differences and overnight scheduling, daytime and morning replays played a decisive role, outperforming live broadcasts in total reach.
The centerpiece of the tournament was the final clash between Spain and Argentina. The broadcast delivered an all-time record in Russian sports television history: the final viewing share among the target demographic (men 14–59; nationwide) reached 48.7%, surging past 65% in the closing minutes of the match. Compared to the UEFA Euro 2024 final, the broadcast share jumped by 124%. Other top-performing fixtures included the Argentina vs. England semifinal (10.5 million viewers), alongside Argentina vs. Egypt (8.8 million) and Portugal vs. Spain (8.5 million).
On average, each live 2026 World Cup broadcast attracted approximately 3.9 million viewers, while matches airing during favorable time slots for European Russia exceeded 5 million viewers. Although the acquisition cost of the rights remains undisclosed, the sublicensing package encompassed full media rights: all 69 matches, opening ceremonies, pre-match studio coverage, and the halftime show during the final. A portion of the broadcast rights was also sublicensed to the streaming platform Kinopoisk under a strategic partnership.
Match TV management aims to retain a portion of the newly acquired audience through the upcoming Russian Premier League season and international competitions featuring Russian athletes.
