▶️ Family Franchises Dominate Russian Streaming Market

Russian streaming services have reported their performance metrics for the first half of 2026. Viewership chart analysis across key platforms indicates a direct correlation between theatrical box office performance and digital viewing metrics, while highlighting a broader shift toward partner content aggregation models and franchise consolidation.

The family fairytale Cheburashka 2 emerged as the absolute leader in digital distribution, cracking the top 10 on six of the country’s seven major platforms (with the sole exception of Kinopoisk). Family and fantasy titles such as The Tale of Tsar Saltan and Alice in Wonderland also recorded strong cross-platform viewership, alongside the foreign thriller The Maid—the latter securing a top-5 spot across most services and drawing nearly 2.8 million viewers. In the digital continuation of the “New Year’s Box Office Battle,” the Prostokvashino project outpaced Buratino, maintaining top-chart presence across four streaming services versus two. The half-year’s top streaming comedy was The New Mother-in-Law. Among new foreign releases, Now You See Me 3 logged the strongest momentum (2.9 million viewers), alongside the Jason Statham action feature Shelter, which attracted nearly 2 million subscribers across Kinopoisk and Ivi.

In the episodic segment, market participants demonstrated diverging business strategies:

  • Kinopoisk continued to advance its single-window ecosystem model: over the six-month period, 15 million Yandex Plus subscribers engaged with content from partner storefronts (Smotrim, TNT, Start, Amediateka, and STS). The platform’s most-watched hit was the historical drama Prince Andrew, drawing over 3 million viewers.
  • Start doubled down on its proprietary original slate and long-tail viewing of proven franchises (Vampires of the Mid-Strip, Gold Digger, and Boy’s Word), whose cumulative view duration on the service surpassed the 1-billion mark in June.
  • Ivi recorded a shift in female audience engagement away from Turkish dramas toward domestic melodramas (specifically titles from the Domaschny channel), while launching vertical microdrama formats and audio series.
  • Premier and Wink maintained their focus on traditional comedy and sitcom segments (Univer, Real Boys, and Lily of the Valley), while Kion solidified its position as the market leader in auteur thrillers and crime procedurals (Fingerprints and The Chikatilo Trail).

Market analysts project that the key industry drivers for the second half of the year will remain durable franchises, expanding cross-platform partner integrations, and the optimization of content budgets in favor of higher-quality original releases.
