Gazprom-Media Holding (GPM) is preparing to establish Kazakhstan as a permanent production hub for feature films, scripted series, and television shows.
GPM CEO Alexander Zharov announced the initiative during his address at the 3rd Russian-Kazakhstan Media Forum in St. Petersburg, emphasizing that the plan entails a long-term strategic integration of the country’s filming assets rather than isolated location shoots.
Zharov highlighted that the partnership incorporates a comprehensive framework, including joint educational initiatives and active talent exchanges between the media industries of both nations. According to the executive, co-producing high-quality content not only unifies viewer demographics but also boosts inbound tourism, strengthens economic and cultural ties, and unveils new commercial opportunities for the media sector.
The holding already possesses operational experience within the republic, having shot principal location photography in Kazakhstan for The Wizard of the Emerald City film trilogy. Establishing a permanent footprint will allow the company to diversify its shooting locations and scale its production capabilities leveraging regional infrastructure and local creative talent.
