🍿 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Dominates China Box Office

Sony Pictures’ superhero blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day topped the mainland China theatrical chart over the weekend. According to data from consultancy firm Artisan Gateway, the feature grossed RMB 463.5 million ($68.1 million) during its three-day debut frame.

Including preview screenings, the film’s cumulative five-day launch in China reached $121.3 million. Of that total, $19 million was generated across IMAX venues, establishing a new opening-weekend territory record for the Spider-Man franchise in the format.

Second place went to Pearl Studio’s domestic animated comedy All Wishes Come True!. In its third frame, the Mu Zhengyang-directed project added $31.8 million, lifting its cumulative gross to $171.5 million since its July 18 release.

Shenzhen Film Studio’s sports comedy Kung Fu Soccer secured the third spot. Directed by Stephen Chow, the summer hit earned $14.1 million in its fourth weekend, driving its total box office haul to $318.5 million.

Hezhong Ruike Media’s workplace satire Make Zhonghe Great Again debuted in fourth place. The sequel to the 2023 hit launched with $8.9 million over a two-day weekend, bringing its total to $12.4 million including previews prior to its August 1 rollout.

Rounding out the top five was Universal’s horror feature Obsession, directed by Karri Barker. The film grossed $4.7 million in its sophomore frame, bringing its local total to $14.5 million.

Mainland China’s overall weekend box office gross hit $132.3 million. Year-to-date theatrical revenue stands at $3.39 billion, down 32% compared to the same period in 2025.
