🎬 Kirill Sokolov to Direct Thriller for Netflix
Streaming giant Netflix has tapped Russian director Kirill Sokolov to helm a new original sci-fi thriller titled Blur.
The project will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps Entertainment, the banner behind Stranger Things and Arrival. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, though the story centers on a mother-daughter relationship tied to teleportation technology.
Based on an earlier script by Christy Hall and Dan Casey, the new draft will be co-written by Sokolov alongside Ellen Shanman. Brian Oh is set to oversee production for 21 Laps.
Sokolov made his international breakthrough with the 2019 dark action-comedy Why Don’t You Just Die!, which earned high praise for its stylistic echoes of early Quentin Tarantino. He later relocated to the U.S. and made his English-language debut in spring 2026 with They Will Kill You—an action-horror comedy starring Zazie Beetz, released by Warner Bros. to warm critical acclaim for its eccentric visual flair.
