🗼 One Hungary to Discontinue Paid Terrestrial TV Service
Hungarian telecommunications operator One Hungary has announced the complete shutdown of its paid terrestrial television service, One Földfelszíni TV, effective November 30 of this year.
In a notice to subscribers, the company stated that the decision to sunset the platform was driven purely by commercial considerations and low profitability.
Sales of new subscriptions were suspended as early as May 29, though the company originally intended to continue servicing its existing user base. One Földfelszíni TV was the successor to Antenna Hungária’s MinDig TV Extra and MinDig TV Premium platforms, broadcasting encrypted channels in the DVB-T2 and HEVC standards across three national multiplexes.
According to Hungary’s media and communications authority, NMHH, the platform’s subscriber base stood at approximately 47,000 users by the end of 2025, having only briefly surpassed 100,000 at its peak. This comes despite significant investment in infrastructure upgrades: in 2020, commercial multiplexes were transitioned to DVB-T2 and HEVC as part of the 700 MHz band clearance for mobile networks.
One Hungary’s exit leaves the future allocation of the three vacated multiplexes uncertain. However, the service termination will not impact free-to-air terrestrial channels, which continue to broadcast separately in the DVB-T standard.
Since December 2025, the terrestrial transmission network has been operated by state-owned company Pro-M, which acquired the broadcasting assets from 4iG Group. Pro-M retains the national DTT broadcasting license valid through 2032, eliminating any risk to the country’s underlying terrestrial TV network.
