🌊 South Korea Box Office Hits Record Weekend of the Year
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey debuted at the top of the South Korean box office over the past weekend. According to data from the Korean Film Council's (KOFIC) tracking system KOBIS, the film grossed $10.3 million, drawing 1.33 million moviegoers across 1,798 screens and capturing 45.1% of the total market revenue.
Since its wide release on August 5, the feature’s total local earnings have reached $14.4 million (1.87 million tickets sold).
Last week’s leader, the blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slipped to second place, earning $9.2 million from 1.26 million viewers in its second weekend (a 40.4% market share). Total South Korean box office sales for the superhero action film have reached $43.7 million.
Third place went to Kim Soo-yong’s local animated sequel Teenieping: Legend of the Whale Heartstone, which grossed $1.9 million over the weekend and $2.8 million including previews. Na Hong-jin’s sci-fi thriller Hope took fourth position, adding $748,000 in its fourth weekend to bring its cumulative total to $33.2 million. Rounding out the top five was the animated feature David, taking in $111,500 for the weekend ($1.9 million overall).
Sixth place went to Minions & Monsters ($92,500 over the weekend, $5.3 million total), followed in seventh by the Japanese documentary What Should We Have Done? ($86,900 over the weekend, $353,000 total). Eighth spot fell to the anime Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, which brought in $79,800 from preview screenings. Toy Story 5 placed ninth ($43,900 over the weekend, for a cumulative $21.3 million), while the Korean action-comedy OK! Madam 2: Bon Voyage closed out the top ten, earning $31,400 ahead of its official launch on August 12.
South Korea’s combined weekend box office reached $22.9 million, making these past three days the highest-grossing weekend for the local film industry since the start of 2026.
