🕷 New "Spider-Man" Shatters Yet Another Record
Sony and Marvel’s superhero action film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set an absolute industry record, surpassing the $700 million domestic mark faster than any other movie in history.
In just two weekend releases, the film grossed $704.5 million in North America and $1.08 billion internationally, bringing its total global box office tally to $1.8 billion. Its international earnings have already outpaced the final overseas total of the franchise’s previous installment, No Way Home ($1.106 billion). The new Spider-Man chapter has officially become the highest-grossing release of the year and cracked the top 10 highest-earning films of all time worldwide.
Throughout cinematic history, only seven projects have ever reached the $700 million threshold in the domestic market. This elite club includes:
- Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) — $963 million
- Avengers: Endgame (2019) — $858 million
- Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) — $814 million
- Avatar (2009) — $785 million
- Top Gun: Maverick (2022) — $721 million
- Black Panther (2018) — $700 million
After debuting with a historical record of $355 million in the US and $932 million worldwide, the blockbuster crossed the $1 billion threshold in just six days. Industry analysts predict that, with no major competition through the end of the summer, the project is not only guaranteed to cross the $2 billion mark (a feat accomplished by only seven films in history), but also stands a strong chance of becoming the first movie ever to reach $1 billion in North American box office revenue and up to $3 billion globally.
