🍿 Spider-Man Surpasses $2 Billion to Become Sony’s Highest-Grossing Release Ever

Sony Pictures’ blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its record-breaking run at the box office. Closing out its third weekend, the film pulled in $70 million in North America, holding the top spot at the box office for the third consecutive week.

Delivering the second-highest third-weekend haul in cinematic history—behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its $90.2 million—the feature starring Tom Holland and Zendaya reached $785.8 million in its first 17 days of release. This propelled the project to fourth place on the all-time North American box office chart, overtaking the original Avatar ($785.2 million).

Globally, the film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton crossed the $2 billion mark faster than any movie in history with the sole exception of Avengers: Endgame. With a current global tally of $2.022 billion, the film has officially become the highest-grossing release in Sony Pictures’ history, surpassing the previous franchise benchmark, Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.9 billion).

Meanwhile, new entries and holdovers held their ground across the box office landscape:

  • Odyssey: Christopher Nolan’s epic drama from Universal secured second place for the weekend with $23.2 million, pushing its domestic total to $504.6 million and worldwide receipts to $1.29 billion (including a $36.6 million opening weekend in China). The project has officially become the director’s highest-grossing film to date.
  • The End of Oak Street: The Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller from director David Robert Mitchell, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, debuted in third place with $21 million from 3,400 North American theaters against an $80 million budget. International markets chipped in an additional $26 million.
  • PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie: The third installment in Paramount and Spin Master’s animated franchise brought in $20.5 million during its domestic launch (fourth place) and $48.5 million overseas on a $39.5 million budget.
  • Katseye: Wild Hearts: The music documentary tracking the girl group rounded out the top five, collecting $3.8 million across 724 screens.

Driven by a formidable slate of releases, total summer box office revenues in North America have reached $4.24 billion, marking a 23.6% increase over the same period last year.
