⚖️ VK Sues Apple
IT holding company VK has filed a lawsuit with the Moscow Arbitration Court against American corporation Apple Inc., its Irish subsidiary Apple Distribution International Ltd, and its Russian entity Apple Rus LLC. The lawsuit was registered in the arbitration case files on August 19.
The company is asking the court to order Apple to restore its removed services to the App Store and fully reactivate push notifications for iOS users. Additionally, VK is requesting that the court impose a daily penalty fee (astreinte) should the defendant fail to comply with the court ruling.
According to VK’s press service, the blocking and removal of its products from the App Store were executed unilaterally and without prior notice. The company emphasizes that the widespread removal of its services, including the Max messaging app, began back in June—before the holding company and its specific offerings were subjected to official restrictions.
The situation escalated in mid-July when VK and the Max service were added to European Union sanction lists, which subsequently led to the removal of the applications from the Google Play store as well. This lawsuit in Russian arbitration represents the holding company’s first systematic step toward the legal protection of its products on foreign mobile platforms.
