🛸 Mediabaza Grants Mdisk Users Self-Service Video Transcoding Capability

Registered users can enjoy unlimited free access to the new service until October 1, 2026.

Mediabaza, the industrial media platform developed by MSK-IX, has launched self-service video transcoding for Mdisk users, allowing them to convert video files into required formats and technical specifications independently. While transcoding was previously available on Mediabaza, processing required technical staff involvement. Now, any user can initiate transcoding directly within the Mediabaza Mdisk service without specialized technical expertise.

To process a file, users simply select the source video and a pre-configured preset. The initial preset kit includes scenarios for generating technical versions with specified parameters, creating lightweight preview clips, and applying watermarks. The processed output is automatically saved to a designated folder in Mdisk. If default options do not meet specific media platform requirements, users can contact a Mediabaza administrator to request a custom preset.

Transcoding can be performed by either content owners or buyers who have been granted access to a file. For instance, a rights holder can store a master file in Mdisk, while an OTT service or streaming platform, upon purchasing the content, can independently prepare and download the precise format needed—such as adaptive bitrate HLS streaming. This eliminates the need for sellers to pre-render and store separate copies for every client or distribution channel.

The service supports MP4 video file creation as well as video preparation for HLS streaming. Depending on the selected preset, available features include:

  • Video processing in resolutions up to 4K
  • Resolution, bitrate, and frame rate adjustments, including high frame rates up to 60 fps
  • Support for stereo sound along with 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound configurations
  • Audio loudness normalization to -23 LUFS
  • Aspect ratio conversion, such as 4:3 to 16:9 adaptation
  • Retention of all or select audio tracks and subtitles
  • Addition of new audio tracks and subtitles
  • Logo or watermark overlays
  • Generation of multiple technical renditions from a single source file

“Introducing self-service transcoding in Mdisk represents another planned step in evolving Mediabaza into an end-to-end industrial platform. We are systematically unifying all core media workflows within a single digital ecosystem: catalog presentation, storage, licensing deals, technical processing, playout, and distribution. Transcoding is now fully integrated into this single workflow, eliminating the need to transfer files between external systems and keeping final deliverables within the unified Mediabaza environment,” noted Grigory Kuzin, Director of MSK-IX Media Platforms.

Through October 1, 2026, registered Mdisk users can perform an unlimited number of transcoding jobs at no extra charge. Storage space for source and newly transcoded files is allocated according to the user’s active Mdisk tariff plan.

The service is available on mediabaza.ru in the “Mdisk” section.
