๐ŸŽฆ Military Comedy Retains Top Spot at Chinese Box Office

The Chinese box office continues to show robust performance fueled by local releases. According to industry tracking firm Artisan Gateway, Dirty Monkeys Studio's military comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in the Middle East held onto the number-one spot over the August 21โ€“23 weekend.

Helmed by director Wen Muye, the film earned $43.9 million in its second weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $232.2 million since its August 11 launch.

Debuting in second place was Pearl River Film Group’s crime drama V, which grossed $18.9 million over its three-day opening weekend, boosting its total to $30.7 million including previews.

Universal’s epic The Odyssey claimed the third spot, adding $15.9 million to reach a regional total of $68.7 million. In fourth place, Pearl Studio’s long-running animated feature All Wishes Come True! brought its six-week cume to $255.7 million. Rounding out the top five was Sony’s superhero action flick Spider-Man: Brand New Day, taking in $4.6 million for the weekend to reach a overall total of $219.9 million.

Weekend box office revenue in China totaled $103.1 million. The nation’s year-to-date total for 2026 has reached $4 billion, down 28.6% compared to the same period in 2025.
