🍿 Pirated Box Office Sets New Annual Record
The past weekend set an absolute 2026 record in the unofficial Russian distribution segment.
According to EAIS data and verified distributor statistics, the gap between legal revenue and total gross box office reached 981 million rubles—the estimated earnings of unofficial releases, led by the new Marvel and Sony comic book film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This figure is double the January result for the third Avatar installment (480 million rubles) and drove the top-20 total box office to a sharp surge of 1.231 billion rubles across Russia (+97% week-over-week).
In the official market, domestic family content retains the lead. The fantasy film The Last Warrior: Gingerbread Man added 120 million rubles in its third weekend, bringing its total gross to 754 million rubles (1.823 million viewers) and outpacing the trajectory of Serf 3 over the same period. Meanwhile, Serf 3 continues to show impressive legs: across 11 weeks in theaters, the picture has generated 1.186 billion rubles, setting a record for domestic summer releases.
Other notable highlights in the official box office include:
- Kikoriki Through the Universes earned 37 million rubles over the weekend (reaching 238 million rubles total), surpassing the total gross of the franchise’s previous feature film and closing in on Kikoriki: Legend of the Golden Dragon (246 million rubles);
- The disaster film Flight Crash accumulated 53.4 million rubles in two weeks, outperforming this year’s genre competitors On the Chain and Night Business;
- The biopic Michael expanded its box office to 2.294 billion rubles in its 13th week. In terms of late-run longevity, the project is trailing only The Challenge and Cheburashka;
- New Releases of the Week: The satirical film Victim of Circumstances debuted with 10.6 million rubles; the Indonesian horror film Destination: Bridge No. 13 pulled in 8.2 million rubles (the best opening in Vereteno’s history); and the Kazakh drama Scammers collected 6.7 million rubles.
Including CIS countries, the cumulative top-20 box office reached 1.383 billion rubles, marking a 490% increase compared to the same period last year.
