🌝 Kolobok Reaches the One-Billion-Ruble Mark
The fairy-tale comedy The Last Warrior: Kolobok by director Anton Maslov, which hit Russian theaters on August 6, has officially crossed the one-billion-ruble milestone.
According to data from the Cinema Fund’s Unified Automated Information System (EAIS), the film’s cumulative box office revenues have reached 1,000,737,825 rubles.
The theatrical run got off to a strong start: pre-sales generated 15.3 million rubles, while opening day brought in 54.2 million rubles. In its debut weekend, the picture topped the domestic box office with 245.8 million rubles, maintaining solid audience engagement into its second week (192.9 million rubles). By mid-September, momentum naturally slowed—over the weekend of September 10–13, the release added 20.6 million rubles to its tally, with 9.36 million rubles earned on Saturday, September 12.
Distributed by Atmosphere Cinema, the project carried a production budget of 1 billion rubles. The Cinema Fund contributed 370 million rubles to the production, comprising 320 million rubles in non-repayable grants and 50 million rubles in repayable loans. Although industry analysts had initially projected final gross earnings of around 1.5 billion rubles prior to the premiere, the current box office figures allow the project to reach profitability.
The film’s theatrical release unfolded against a controversial backdrop. A boycott campaign gained traction on social media following schedule shifts for the blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Users flooded review aggregators with negative ratings for Kolobok; however, Kinopoisk classified the sudden influx of low scores as an unnatural review-bombing attack and removed them from the final rating calculation. Rumors subsequently circulated online regarding mandatory school screenings for grades 1–9, which the Ministry of Education officially refuted, confirming that no regulatory directives had been issued.
