🏛 'The Odyssey' becomes Universal's highest-grossing film of all time
Universal Pictures has set an all-time record in its 114-year history, with Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey taking the top spot as the studio's highest-grossing release ever.
In under two months in theaters, the film has grossed $601.2 million domestically and $1.083 billion internationally, bringing its cumulative global box office total to $1.68 billion.
Produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan, the film demonstrated remarkable box office stamina, reclaiming the top spot in its eighth weekend. Beyond shattering personal records for the director—surpassing previous hits The Dark Knight Rises and Oppenheimer—the project set a series of historical milestones for the film industry. The Odyssey has become the highest-grossing R-rated film in cinematic history and the top-earning release across the IMAX network. Additionally, it delivered the strongest international box office performance for an original, non-sequel film since 2009.
NBCUniversal Entertainment Chairman Donna Langley hailed the project as a “generational event that restores the culture of moviegoing.” For Langley, this triumph represents a major personal victory after bringing Nolan to Universal’s roster in 2021.
Fueled by the blockbuster’s success, Universal firmly dominates the 2026 theatrical landscape, commanding a 26% share of the global box office with total earnings approaching $5 billion. This makes Universal the first major studio of the year to cross the $4 billion milestone worldwide.
