🔮 Practical Magic 2 Modestly Debut at Global Box Office
The global box office totals for the weekend are in. The weekend's main premiere, the 90s fantasy sequel Practical Magic 2 (Warner Bros./Alcon) starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, grossed $46 million in its opening weekend ($30 million in North America and $16 million across 77 international markets).
Overseas earnings fell below studio expectations ($18–23 million). English-speaking territories generated the bulk of the revenue, with the UK opening at $3.9 million and Australia at $2.2 million. While the film’s performance aligns with other female-led sequels and recent Bullock releases (such as The Lost City and Freakier Friday), it fell short of Warner Bros.’ past autumn records.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey (Universal) continues to demonstrate impressive endurance. In its ninth week, the film added $34.4 million across 85 territories, bringing its global tally to $1.68 billion and overtaking Jurassic World as Universal’s highest-grossing release of all time. In Japan, the movie opened to $4.1 million—double the launch figures of Dune: Part Two. With $87.6 million to date in South Korea, The Odyssey has become the third highest-grossing Hollywood film in the market’s history. Its IMAX global gross has reached $506 million.
Other notable milestones:
- Spider-Man: A New Day reached $2.452 billion globally ($935.1 million domestic), positioning itself to surpass The Force Awakens as the highest-grossing film in domestic box office history.
- The horror film Insidious: The Dark Realm (Sony/Blumhouse) brought its total gross to $155.2 million in its fourth weekend, outperforming both the first and third installments of the franchise.
- Disney’s music documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger debuted with $8.2 million worldwide, $3.6 million of which came from the UK, where it claimed the second spot on the charts.
