🕷 Spider-Man: Brand New Day Becomes the Highest-Grossing Film in US History
The new Spider-Man blockbuster has rewritten North American box office history. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has overtaken Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), which held the top spot for over a decade with $936 million.
On its 47th day in theaters, Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing reached $936.77 million domestically, officially becoming the highest-grossing release in US and Canadian cinema history.
Worldwide earnings for the joint Sony and Marvel production have reached $2.45 billion. This marks the third-highest total in global box office history, trailing only Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion). Along the way, Spider-Man has surpassed both Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion) and Titanic ($2.2 billion).
Industry experts point to the astonishing momentum of the film since its late-July release. It crossed the $1 billion mark globally in just six days and hit $2 billion within three weekends—second in speed only to Avengers: Endgame. The massive hype was fueled not only by suspense surrounding the fallout of No Way Home, but also by strong word-of-mouth and the addition of Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
For Marvel Studios, this triumph comes as a critical turn of fortune following a string of commercial missteps in 2025 (Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four: First Steps). The studio now hopes to build on this momentum in December with the release of Avengers: Doomsday, featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s return as the central villain. The main question facing the industry now is whether Spider-Man can reach the elusive $1 billion domestic milestone without a theatrical re-release.
