The August digital box office reflected a seasonal shift toward lighthearted, entertainment-focused content typical for late summer. The month’s headline event was the release of the musical biopic Michael.
Debuting simultaneously across four major streaming platforms—Kinopoisk, Okko, Ivi, and Wink—the film secured the top spot on every platform’s charts.
Among domestic feature film releases, comedies and sports projects delivered the strongest performances. Backed by a massive promotional campaign, Grandpa Fomich cracked the top 5 on four separate streaming services, taking second place on Premier. Strong results were also achieved by the sports dramedy The Karate Kid and the fantasy film Bogatyrs, starring Roman Kurtsyn, both of which maintained top-5 positions across most platforms. Meanwhile, A Crazy Vacation, starring Maxim Lagashkin, predictably topped the chart on Premier.
In the TV series sector, August viewership split between gripping dramas and lighter newcomers:
- Cold: The gritty thriller starring Lyubov Aksyonova retained its number one spot on Ivi and Start, while also topping the chart on Wink.
- Captain Fog: The comedic detective series from Kion premiered on August 28 and set a new benchmark, becoming the platform’s most successful original comedy of the year.
- Silver Spoon: The latest installment of the franchise maintained its lead on Kinopoisk while simultaneously entering the top 10 on Ivi.
- Miracle: The project starring Ida Galich debuted at number five on Kinopoisk, showing strong potential for growth in September.
Start demonstrated a distinct viewership pattern once again. Subscribers largely bypassed nationwide theatrical blockbusters, favoring the Brendan Fraser-led war drama Pressure and the feature-length finale of the franchise Happy End.
