The primary driver behind the box-office boost was a pair of projects that posted virtually identical financial results in the battle for first place.

The weekend’s true sensation was the re-release of the cult favorite Twilight by distributor Kino.Art.Pro. Catherine Hardwicke’s film grossed RUB 164 million in its opening frame, setting an all-time box-office record for theatrical re-releases and surpassing Titanic (RUB 145 million in 2012). However, James Cameron’s epic retained its lead in total admissions, outperforming Twilight by nearly 200,000 tickets sold.

Trailing the leader by the narrowest of margins was a new release from TRITE Studio and Central Partnership—the fantasy film How Ivan Got into a Fairytale. The movie grossed the same RUB 164 million (falling short of the top spot by a mere RUB 300,000), yet drew a larger crowd to the theaters, registering 453,000 admissions compared to Twilight. The fairytale posted the ninth-best opening-weekend result among domestic releases this year.

Segment Dynamics and Holdover Successes:

• Action and International Newcomers: The action picture The Courier, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, launched with RUB 26.6 million (46,000 admissions), outperforming rival titles in the same genre (The Runner, Night Business). On the horror front, Final Destination: Bloodlines debuted at the bottom of the top 10 with RUB 9.6 million.
• Family Content: The animated feature Moonzy: The Dark Side of the Moon pushed its cumulative gross to RUB 246 million, though it currently lags behind the franchise’s first installment. Meanwhile, the animated film Wonderland benefited from school group bookings, recording the smallest drop in the top 10 (-16.7%) and bringing its cumulative total to RUB 25.3 million.
• Box-Office Billionaires: Entering its seventh week, the fantasy hit The Last Warrior: The Gingerbread Man bumped its total earnings up to RUB 1.022 billion. While it will no longer catch Serf 3 in gross revenue, it retains a solid chance of surpassing it in admissions (2.488 million vs. 2.525 million viewers).

According to analyst estimates based on EAIS data and verified distributor reports, unofficial (“pirated”) screenings—dominated by the blockbusters Spider-Man: A New Day and The Odyssey—accounted for roughly RUB 130 million. This marks a 24.9% decline week-over-week, signaling a shift in audience interest back toward official theatrical offerings.
