The special theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame dominated the global box office, triumphantly capturing the top spot in North America with $26 million over the weekend. International markets contributed an additional $60 million, bringing the re-release's worldwide total to $86 million.

The return of Marvel’s 2019 blockbuster across 3,060 screens in the US and Canada featured previously unreleased footage alongside an exclusive teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18.
The return of the flagship Marvel franchise energized the broader theatrical market: North American total box office hit $122.3 million—a 10.6% increase over the previous weekend and a 58.5% surge compared to the same period last year.
Resident Evil held onto second place. Directed by Zach Cregger and starring Austin Abrams, the action-horror reboot dipped 60% in its second weekend to earn $23.3 million domestically. That pushed its North American cumulative total past the $100 million threshold to $103.4 million, supplemented by $27 million overseas.
David Ayer’s drama Heart of the Beast (budgeted at $82 million) debuted via Paramount with $20 million domestically and $30.1 million internationally. The film, which centers on a Navy SEAL operator and his combat dog, earned an A- CinemaScore and an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lance Oppenheim’s crime drama Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as controversial journalist Chris Hansen, launched with $19.1 million against a modest $15 million production budget.
DreamWorks’ original animated feature Forgotten Island ($80 million budget), inspired by Philippine mythology, opened below projections with $12.8 million. However, the film is positioned for strong long-term performance backed by an A CinemaScore and a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The same week, Universal Pictures became the first studio to cross the $5 billion global box office milestone in 2026, driven by key hits including The Odyssey, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and the biographical drama Michael.
