š² 'Avengers' Re-Release Tops Chinese Box Office
Weekend box office earnings in mainland China reached $39.9 million as the movie industry experienced its traditional lull ahead of the autumnās major cinematic eventāGolden Week.
Despite lower overall theater attendance, Marvel Studiosā Avengers: Endgame claimed the top spot, grossing Ā„83.8 million ($12.5 million) over the weekend. With this re-release, the superhero epic’s cumulative total in China reached an impressive $647.8 million.
The former box office leader, Dirty Monkeys’ wartime comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in the Middle East, dropped to second place. Directed by Wen Muye, the film brought in $7.6 million in its seventh weekend. The story of a Chinese chef who transforms his restaurant into a sanctuary for orphans in a war zone has sustained strong audience interest since its August 11 debut, amassing a total of $341.2 million to date.
Rounding out the top three is a summer holdover, Pearl Studio’s animated comedy All Wishes Granted!. In its eleventh weekend, the film added $4.6 million, pushing its cumulative gross to $296 million since opening in July.
The weekend’s only notable newcomer was Riverrun Grace Film’s crime comedy Old Fox, which opened in fourth place with $3.6 million.
Closing out the top five was Han Yan’s crime thriller V, which earned $2.8 million in its sixth weekend, bringing its overall tally to $96 million.
China’s total year-to-date box office for 2026 currently stands at $4.34 billion, trailing 29.4% behind the same period in 2025. Distributors are now pinning their hopes on the upcoming holiday releases.
