🔝 'Avengers: Endgame' Reclaims the Top Spot at the Global Box Office
Marvel Studios' blockbuster Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed its title as the highest-grossing film in cinematic history. The film's global total has reached $2.9255 billion, once again surpassing James Cameron's Avatar ($2.9237 billion).
This shift at the top was driven by a large-scale re-release of the Russo brothers’ epic, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore. The re-release was organized as part of a marketing campaign leading up to the premiere of Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 18.
In its second weekend of the re-release, domestic box office receipts for Endgame Encore fell by 81% to $4.4 million, following a strong $26.1 million opening a week earlier. The film’s total domestic haul has now reached $894.6 million—the third-highest in U.S. box office history, behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($954.4 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million).
Overseas, Endgame has accumulated $2.03 billion (ranking second all-time), with the re-release alone generating $126 million worldwide ($36.2 million in the U.S. and $89.8 million internationally).
The Endgame Encore theatrical run posted record-breaking results across Latin America—particularly in Mexico ($6.1 million) and Brazil ($3.1 million)—and topped the charts for foreign re-releases in China ($21.3 million), India ($3.8 million), Indonesia, Vietnam, and several other markets.
This marks the second time Endgame has overtaken Avatar; Marvel first claimed victory over Cameron’s sci-fi epic at Comic-Con in 2019.
Market analysts are now looking toward the end of the year, anticipating a major box-office showdown on December 18, when Avengers: Doomsday opens head-to-head with the third installment of Dune (Paramount/Warner Bros./Legendary). The industry is already bracing for a repeat of the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
