😱 "Digger" Could Become One of the Biggest Box-Office Flops in Cinema History

Alejandro GonzĆ”lez IƱƔrritu’s latest feature, Digger, starring Tom Cruise, risks etching its name into film history for all the wrong reasons.

According to trade reports, the picture could wrap up its theatrical run with a staggering loss of roughly $250 million—even after accounting for post-theatrical revenue from digital sales, VOD platforms, and streaming licensing deals.

The project’s financial picture is grim. The film carried a production budget of around $173 million, complemented by a global marketing push from Warner Bros. that topped $100 million. The true scale of the crisis came to light following the studio’s acquisition by Skydance: upon gaining access to internal financials, the new leadership team led by David Ellison assessed the prospective losses as catastrophic.

Its box-office debut only confirmed the worst fears. Over its opening weekend, Digger grossed a meager $21 million worldwide, with the domestic US market contributing a paltry $8 million. Skydance analysts now project that the film’s final global box-office tally is unlikely to surpass $40 million.

Should these pessimistic projections hold true, IƱƔrritu’s project will join the ranks of the 21st century’s most notorious box-office disasters. The dishonor roll is currently led by John Carter ($250 million in net losses), followed by The Lone Ranger ($240 million), The Marvels ($230 million), Strange World ($200 million), and Joker: Folie Ć  Deux ($200 million).
