💃🏻 SAG-AFTRA Condemns "Tilly Norwood" as a Threat

The US actors' union, SAG-AFTRA, issued a strong condemnation against the "AI actress" Tilly Norwood, whose creator recently reported interest from Hollywood agents.

SAG-AFTRA called Tilly a “computer program trained on the work of countless professional actors without permission or compensation.”

“It doesn’t solve a problem—it creates one by using stolen performances to take away actors’ jobs, cheapening human artistry,” the statement read.

The union emphasized that studios are obligated to comply with collective bargaining agreements when utilizing synthetic performers.

Stars including Melissa Barrera and Whoopi Goldberg condemned the AI character. Goldberg noted that audiences “will always be able to tell the difference between them [AI] and us.”

Elin Van der Velden, who created Tilly, defended her creation, calling it a “creative work” and “a new tool, a new paintbrush” that will not replace, but complement live performance.
