๐ California quiets down streaming ads
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a bill that requires streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and YouTube, to regulate the volume of their advertisements.
The legislation was initiated after a gubernatorial aide complained that the sudden surge in sound during ad breaks was scaring his newborn daughter.
The document prohibits streaming platforms from drastically increasing the volume during commercial breaks. A similar ban has been in place since 2010 but previously did not apply to streaming services.
According to Newsom, the law aims to ensure that advertisements do not sound louder than the main program.
Since many major streaming companies are based in California, this law could effectively set a national standard and lead to reduced ad volume across the entire US.
