⚖️ Senators ban "uncancellable" subscriptions
The Federation Council (Russia's upper house of parliament) has approved a law designed to protect digital subscription users.
It prohibits services from using a client’s bank card details for recurring payments if the consumer has explicitly refused or withdrawn permission for their use.
Put simply, if a person cancels a subscription or removes a card from their personal account, the service will not be able to continue automatically debiting money from that card.
According to the new law, the seller must ensure the customer has the ability to submit such a refusal, including through electronic means. Using the payment details for further automatic debits after the consumer’s refusal is prohibited.
The law will take effect on March 1, 2026.
