😢 Paramount is shutting down MTV in Europe
Paramount is preparing for a massive withdrawal from the linear TV market in Europe. Due to declining viewer interest, most of the thematic MTV channels will cease broadcasting by the end of 2025.
After December 31, 2025, five channels in the UK will stop operating: MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live.
Only the main MTV HD channel will remain available to viewers, now focused primarily on reality shows and entertainment formats.
The withdrawal affects more than just the UK. The closure of MTV channels, as well as other Paramount brands (TeenNick, NickMusic, Comedy Central Extra), is expected in Central and Eastern European countries (Poland, Hungary), as well as in Germany and Austria.
The decision reflects a general trend: the audience for linear music TV is rapidly shrinking, migrating to online platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. Experts consider this part of a wider international restructuring of Paramount’s portfolio.
