๐Ÿ˜ฑ Nearly half of young people affected by TV and film content

A survey by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) among young people (aged 12-21) revealed that 45% of respondents had watched content that negatively impacted their mental well-being.

46% of those affected felt the negative impact for a long time, reporting feelings of sadness (40%) and anxiety (39%).

The most common causes of negative feelings were disturbing images (31%), violence (30%), and themes of trauma/abuse (30%).

70% of those negatively affected stated that the impact would have been less severe if they had been warned about the issues in advance. Young people are actively looking for warnings.

Warnings about trauma/violence and frightening scenes are the most demanded (over 60%). Older teenagers (16+) particularly value information on sexual violence and self-harm.

The BBFC emphasizes that clear and transparent age ratings and content advice are critically important for protecting the mental health of young people in the streaming era.
