🇩🇪 German broadcasters to unite in Digital Space
Germany's largest media companies—public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, private giants RTL Deutschland and ProSiebenSat.1, along with the news agency dpa—are partnering for the first time to create a common digital infrastructure.
The goal is to develop the Media Data Space—a decentralized, AI-integrated, national media data infrastructure. The objective is to strengthen the digital sovereignty and competitiveness of German media in the global market.
The key condition is that control over the data remains with the partner. Artificial intelligence will “travel” to the data for processing, not the other way around.
The project will test mechanisms for deepfake detection, content personalization, and the fine-tuning of AI language models.
Testing will last until the end of 2025. Following that, a decision will be made regarding the permanent launch of the national Media Data Space, which could happen as early as 2026.
