🎞 FAST channels cede market to micro-dramas

Micro-dramas—short (up to 10 minutes) series designed for mobile devices—are experiencing explosive growth. According to data from Omdia, presented at MIPCOM, their global revenue will reach $11 billion by 2025.

This is nearly double the forecasted revenue for FAST channels ($5.8 billion in 2026).

The format’s success is based on a simple and effective paid model: the first episodes are free, while the continuation is available via subscription or transactional fee. These payments generate over 60% of all revenue.

The Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) in the micro-drama segment can reach $20 per week or $80 per month, highlighting their high profitability.

China remains the epicenter of the format, generating 83% of global revenue. In the international market, the US leads (half of all non-China revenue), followed by Japan and South Korea.

Analysts note that this is not just a trend but the “next wave of content evolution,” blending social media and traditional storytelling.
