🇫🇷 Del Toro and Netflix launch animation studio in Paris

Legendary director Guillermo del Toro, Netflix, and the renowned school Gobelins Paris have partnered to launch a new studio dedicated to advancing stop-motion animation.

The new center will be located on the Gobelins campus and will serve as a “living lab for experimentation and research.” Its goal is to “shape the storytellers of tomorrow and push this art form into the future.”

The studio is co-funded by Netflix and del Toro himself, known for his Oscar-winning stop-motion film Pinocchio.

Filmmakers, mentors, and students will collaborate at the venue to push the boundaries of this type of animation.

The studio is also a tribute to the legacy of the late Mark Gustafson, co-director of Pinocchio and an animator on Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The launch is planned for the 2025–2026 academic year.
