🍻 75% of creative industries jobs go through connections

The global Bectu’s Big Survey investigation revealed a concerning picture: a dominant share of jobs in the creative industries (film, TV, theatre, fashion) are allocated through personal connections.

75% of respondents stated that they obtained their job in the last 18 months through a friend or contact. In film, TV drama, and fashion, this figure is even higher—up to 82%.

Only 37% of vacancies were advertised publicly. In TV drama and film, this number dropped to 25–27%.

Just 37% of all respondents (and only 30% in the film industry) were invited to a formal interview.

22% of workers concealed important personal information (a diagnosis, family obligations) during hiring. Among disabled workers, this figure reaches 45%.

The rush in production also creates instability: 55% of respondents faced a last-minute job cancellation in the past year, and 43% started work without formal booking confirmation, creating a risk of non-payment.
