๐Ÿ˜ก Writers Speak Out Against WBD Sale

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has strongly spoken out against any merger of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) with another major studio, calling such consolidation a "disaster" for its members.

The WGA’s statement came two days after WBD confirmed it was considering the sale of the entire company or its parts. The company stated it began an “exploration of strategic alternatives” due to unsolicited interest from multiple parties.

The WGA stated that a merger of WBD with companies like Paramount or another major streamer would reduce the number of content buyers in the market, negatively affecting workers and competition.

“Merger after merger in the media industry has harmed workers, weakened competition, and damaged free speech…,” the WGA stated.

The Guild emphasized that it will work with regulatory bodies to block a potential deal, as it has done with other major mergers in the past, including the Disney-Fox deal in 2017.
