๐Ÿ“ Scientists find that more pixels doesn't mean a better image

Researchers from Cambridge University and Meta Reality Labs have reported that the human eye has a measurable "resolution limit," beyond which increasing pixel density (4K, 8K) does not provide a noticeable image improvement.

Instead of screen resolution, the team measured Pixels Per Degree (PPD)โ€”how many pixels fall within a person’s field of view.

The resolution limits were found to be higher than the conventional 60 PPD rule: approximately 94 PPD for grayscale and 89 PPD for colored patterns (red/green) when viewed straight on.

For typical living room viewing conditions, a 44” 4K or 8K television will not have a noticeable advantage over a Quad HD screen of the same size.

Furthermore, exceeding the limits of human visual perception increases cost, power consumption, and processing requirements without improving perceived detail.
