💰 Former Sony Pictures entity wins lawsuit against Cinema Park

The Moscow Arbitration Court has ruled to recover 471.6 million rubles from Russia's largest cinema chain, Cinema Park, in favor of LLC "Content Club"—the former representation of the Hollywood studio Sony Pictures.

The total claims of the ex-Sony representation against Russian cinema chains amount to about 1 billion rubles. The debt accrued in late 2021 to early 2022 for Hollywood films that had already been screened.

In the spring of 2022, Russian chains stopped paying the majors for released titles. The plaintiff stated that Cinema Park, at some point, simply decided not to transfer the rental payments.

A representative of Cinema Park insisted in court that the plaintiffs failed to provide evidence of invoicing, and that for the main part of the claims, the statute of limitations had been missed.

In parallel, Cinema Park itself filed a counterclaim against Content Club for 578 million rubles, demanding compensation for lost profits that arose because Sony ceased providing new films.
